Film Is Dead

Tue Jun 17, 2008, 3:30 PM
Like Nietzsche's, it's an aphoristic critique on the nature of human progress. I'm saddened and disappointed at what's happened to my art since I left. Digital has enabled amateurs to achieve horizons that took us years to even see in the heroes and mentors of our salad days in film photography.

I have to ask myself, did I do it for the challenge, for the sake of art, relationships, silver truth? Or did I do it to impress myself because I was becoming good at it and others noticed. Or that others envied if not my skill, my interactions with nude college-aged models?

If I could sculpt in marble, and everyone in my neighborhood bought 6-axis CNC machines, would I give up sculpting? Maybe not if I was truly gifted.

It also allows many others who didn't have the time or the resources to find their latent talent in glass and gelatin.

I just have to realign my pride to the challenge. And to the fact that no Canon or Nikon will ever be a Hasselblad, Mamiya, or my beloved Leica.

That's right little Canon Rebel whores, my lens cost more than your whole fuckin kit.

Why do people send thank you's for watching? Not that I dont appreciate it, or that it isn't nice, or makes me unhappy... I'm just curious how people have the time, or the interest. It seems to be a community behavior here.

anyways, you're very welcome. You're going to go places, I can see it.
